Gaijin Kanpai Ep. 197 - Do As I Say, Not As Ayu

Words to live by.

197 - Do As I Say, Not As Ayu
Ayumi Hamasaki - LOVE again | TF6 - Be My Valentine
Download: [MP3]

Love is in the air this week as we review the latest single by the ever-gimmicky Tommy February6, "Be My Valentine," as well as Ayumi Hamasaki's "LOVE again." (Don't forget to shout the first word and whisper the last word like a creeper; typesetting is important!) But are the magicks of February 14th enough to make us fall head-over-heels for this music? Once again we've tricked you into needing to listen to the show! We are evil geniuses.

Disclaimer: Erin talks a great deal about race in the B-roll which may make some listeners uncomfortable.

Jaylee's Top 10 Ballads of 2012

The time has come again for another one of my fabulous lists of the best ballads of the year! Valentine’s Day is upon us, and though I hate to put a dampener on it, I have to remind you all that the podcast will be breaking up with you after episode 200. It’s not you, it’s us. So let’s get messy drunk, blast some tear-jerking love songs and gorge on ice cream to celebrate another year of Japan’s favorite genre, the ballad.

Gaijin Kanpai Ep. 196 - It's Vagical!

Silly Zer0 and her made up words.

196 - It's Vagical!
Nakashima Mika - REAL | Kyary Pamyu Pamyu - Kimi ni 100%
Download: [MP3]

If this were medieval times LoKi would be given the title "The Oathbreaker" because he's lied to you all and had to miss another episode of GK. Though "The Oathbreaker" is kind of a badass name, I'm not sure if it implies the correct amount of shame we want to bestow upon him for missing 196. We should probably just make him a eunich. I'll need several strong fans to hold him down while I do it though; it's delicate work. To add insult to injury he'll have to listen to Nakashima Mika and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's latest releases.

GENERATIONS "ANIMAL" Exclusive Interview Translation

Source: Oricon

-- I was shocked by how cool the music video for your 1st Single, “BRAVE IT OUT,” was and was more shocked when “ANIMAL” actually trumped it! The dance portion isn’t fragmented at all.

Kazuhara Ryuto: Because it feels like it’s speeding up, this song has a lot of force to it.

Komori Hayato: As the sensation of speed and expansion became important we disregarded the previous roles the members of the group filled. The members thought about how the taste of the composition fits with the instinctual theme and gives the song an image of acceleration.

Kazuhara: For us performers, it was trial and error. We made a composition to make the vocals stand out. During the interlude we kind of spin around and around; it was my favorite part.

--Your personalities had more of a chance to stand out this time. Nakatsuka’s dance moves are particularly interesting; it looks like you’re having a lot of fun.

Nakatsuka Yuta: I try to be aware of myself and how much I enjoy dancing. I always study how I move.

Gaijin Kanpai 195 - GLAY Pride Parade

Sing it loud, I'm GLAY and I'm proud!

195 - GLAY Pride Parade
GLAY - JUSTICE | GLAY - GUILTY
Download: [MP3]

Sing it loud, I'm GLAY and I'm proud!

It started out so innocently, a nice helping of show news followed by a chummy round of AA picks. Little did we know a chasm was forming in the GK ranks between GLAY-supporters and members of the Far-Eastboro Baptist Church. Jaylee and Erin march onto the capital with their heads held high while LoKi and Zer0 can't help but ask "Will somebody think of the children?"

Tohohshinki "Catch Me -If you wanna-" Interview Translation

Source: Oricon

Their first new song in half a year. We spoke privately with Tohoshinki about the Japanese version of the title track from their Korean album “Catch Me,” released in September of last year.

--“Catch Me -If you wanna-,” your new theme song for the drama Saki, is a cool dance number. It's dancy and distinctive, and it shows a new side of Tohoshinki. It's a great way to start 2013.

Yunho: The melody line is our easiest to listen to so far. I think dance and formation are crucial features of the song. I really want people to anticipate seeing a performance of it.

Changmin: They really captured the feeling of a body that’s breaking apart in the music video. We really tried our hardest and did our best making it, so I hope you all look forward to it.
